This month we’ve been focusing on Boatshed Labs- the place where we design and test new systems before they are integrated into Boatshed itself.

Boatshed operates through a structured five-part brokerage model, covering everything from listing and local support to negotiation, client funds and platform infrastructure.

It’s a structure built from experience, and it works.

Boatshed Labs is where we strengthen and extend that model. New systems get designed and tested, before going to the wider platform.

Grid check- a tool built mid-ocean.

Grid check is one example. When we crossed the Atlantic on the ARC 2025, each morning the weather forecast arrived by email. It was broken into grid squares - each one labelled with a letter and a number.

You knew your latitude and longitude.

What you didn’t always know was which square that put you in.

We developed Grid check- a small offline tool for decoding the ARC forecast, so avoiding the need for manual charts and cross referencing your position with the information on the email, in a rolling cabin.

Read the blog from CEO@sea about how we developed Gridcheck here.

That was a tool built mid ocean, but other ideas are currently in development, some seeking partners, others destined for integration into the core stack.
