Broker's Comments
North Quay Marine is a small, family-run boatyard in Conyer, Kent who have been building and repairing wooden vessels since the 1960's. Following from his father, Ted Spears' main interest was boat design and so when a client with a specific remit for a safe, small dayboat approached him, the North Quay 17 was drawn
Ease of handling, shoal draft and the ability to tow by car were vital but equally important was her appearance. A traditional design using modern construction methods, strongly built but light enough to perform, the North Quay 17 immediately won an award at the Wooden Boat Show and went on to become a real favourite among boatbuilders.
This particular example is that award winner, hull No. 1. She is a particularly pretty and well specified boat with varnished coamings and bronze fittings and her freshly painted hull just gleams. Although marketed as a dayboat, she does have two berths and a canopy (berth cushions and canvas are not aboard), a single ring stove and space to fit a head so the ability to overnight adds to her appeal. A really lovely boat, just waiting for more adventures!
