History in Southampton
Published: Wednesday, 23 April 2008
Boatshed Hamble took a contingent of happy boat spotters out to witness an historic event in the port of Southampton.
The three Cunard cruise ships, "The Three Queens", the famous Queen Elizabeth 2, the Queen Victoria and the Queen Mary 2, were together in the UK for the first time in their history. This momentous occasion was witnessed by tens of thousands of people crowding the shoreline and bobbing on the water in a flotilla of small boats.
The Queen Mary 2, the biggest, tallest, longest and widest passenger cruise ship ever, dwarfed her two sisters as she moved out of the port to begin her first transatlantic crossing of 2008. All three ships sounded their whistles in salute and the noise was fantastic.
Boatshed Hamble, providing the RIB transportation, got us into a great position to be a part of history. Thank you guys!
